George W. Price

George Washington Price was born on March 28, 1840, in Pennsylvania. It is likely that he was born in the Harrisburg area before moving to Lewisburg as an adult. Census records state that at least one of his parents was born in Virginia, though specifics are unclear.1 On February 21, 1862, George enlisted in the Union Army at the age of 22, in Harrisburg. George served with the Union Army until the disbandment of the USCT on October 1, 1865.2 George lived a full life after his service. He married Grace Ann Johnson, and together they welcomed children Jane Ellen (1865), Charles (1868), Mary (1871), and Sarah (1873). According to census records, Grace Ann would pass away before 1920.3 George remarried to Martha Lumb, who is listed as his wife on his death certificate.4

George passed away on Friday, April 22, 1932, at the age of 92. His death certificate lists his cause of death as cerebral thrombosis.5 His obituary states that he was sick for roughly one week preceding his death6. It is likely that George suffered a stroke and eventually succumbed to complications. His funeral service took place in the Lewisburg Cemetery Chapel before George was interred with military honors.
